School Driver Education & Youth Group Driving Projects

Are you a Secondary or High School student or teacher or do you go to or run or help out at a Youth Group?
We can offer an amazing young driving experience for you or any young people you work with. We can offer a service tailored to your needs whether that is: one off taster sessions, stand alone practical driving course sessions in your car parks or at our venues, practical driving course sessions to supplement your own or other Agency classroom presentations or a full bespoke package.
Please read on for more information why on board training have the experience and are in a better position than most driving schools to provide practical and theory driving sessions and workshops to young and pre 17 drivers. Our course and project prices are very competitive compared to others who often charge a lot more for a service which may not have the same quality.
All our instructors have had enhanced Disclosure Checks completed and are experienced in providing not only our quality on road lessons but more importantly the lessons for our younger drivers from age 10 which at times can take place with not only 1 student in the car but up to 3 participants sharing the car when it is part of a school or youth group activity.
We have been providing under age driving lessons as part of our normal driving school activities since 2002 and have had previous media coverage and positive comments from Road Safety Scotland and RosPA Safety House in Edinburgh regarding our under-age driving activities. Our instructors also have experience in presenting classroom and workshop sessions for young drivers.
Not only do we appreciate, that generally, the younger a person starts to drive, the easier and quicker they learn we have also found our young driver courses can shorten the time it takes to learn to drive on the road at 17! European Road Safety research has also found that it is not the age that is important for young driver road safety but more so the number of hours that young drivers have over an extended period of time before sitting their driving test. We believe that the younger a person starts to drive and when the driving is spread gradually over a few years the young driver becomes more confident in the control of the car and is more aware of not only their but also the cars limitations.
A large part of this learning is promoting positive beliefs & attitudes to driving, developing a sound understanding of the vehicle and driver's limitations and instilling responsibility and maturity behind the wheel of the car while retaining a fun and enjoyable learning environment!
For almost eight years we have been working with several local authorities conducting pre 17 youth driving sessions at our Hamilton driving area for; Secondary Schools, Youth Services -including South Lanarkshire's Universal Connections for various Youth Diversion Projects including Diversion from Alcohol and they have been running for several years now, Streetbase, Hamilton Information Project for Youth, Young Carers Groups, Generation Youth, Integrated Childrens' Services, Careers Scotland, Social Work Services - Through Care Dept. to name a few.
We have also worked with Strathclyde Police officers in Hamilton who were Community Safety Officers and School Campus Officers whereby we provided ten instructors and cars to work at the same time with students from 3 different High Schools who were deemed to be more demanding students, with a view to breaking down barriers between the youth in the communities and schools and we worked with the students 3:1 in the car with the driving instructor and ensured that each car had a student from each of the three schools and ensured they all worked towards their common goal in relation to the driving course. We provided ten instructors for this course and had 30 participants over a nine week period.
The flexibility we can offer for these courses ensures each course is tailored to the individual requirements of each participant and group.
The courses can be designed as a one off taster or more commonly as several weeks or months of driving which can also have theory and road safety presentations included by our own qualified and experienced instructors.
With the introduction in 2010 of the SQA Safe Road Use award for 14 to 16 year olds we can offer a practical element to supplement the Award's two Units or help you structure and plan the two Units over your available time as well as work with you on any other young driver initiative or project you have. This SQA Award includes credits to the young person's theory test and it is a good starting point. We can assist further in preparation for the remaining parts of the theory test including the Hazard Perception and then the actual preparation for the practical driving test with more schools considering this as part of the syllabus.
